How to Set Password Security without SSO????

Hi there, anyone know of a method to set password complexity, history and minimum character requirements?

It would appear QlikView is not able to do this- surely that can't be the case?

Hi,

In regards to authentication, if it's done using AD or another operating system based security directory, then you have to change the policies for passwords and security in the AD or the security directory (say Novell or LDAP). If you use DMS, then passwords are hardcoded, and there is neither such policy nor similar.

In regards to authorization, section access does not have either that feature, because passwords, when using PASSWORD field, is populated from a source file or database, and users cannot change their passwords using QlikView. If you want to create some procedure so the passwords are changed from time to time and keep that data, it has to be done in the database, QlikView is "transparent" in this sense as well.

When you use NTNAME instead, the password is not stored into QlikView but checked with the security directory.

Hope that helps.

I'm talking about straight off the shelf - surely qlikview as an application has some form of authentication method without attaching AD or LDAP......

Hi,

QlikView has DMS Authorization, when used along with the Custom Directory it allows to full create and control your users via the QEMC/QMC. But there are no password requirements in QlikView as such, any custom user can have a two digits length password, or change the password to the previous password.

QlikView relies on the operating system as far as security is concerned (either AD or LDAP), except for this DMS authorization. Anyway, this DMS is stored in the .Meta and .Shared files and very little flexible, in case you have several dozens of users the management could be really cumbersome...

Hope that helps.
