Link table vs Concatenate

Hello all,

I have a confusion regarding the use of Link Table and Concatenate of tables. Both used to avoid circular loop, synthetic tables etc. Recently I came to know from some developers that Link Table is a bad choice in data model, rather we need to use Concatenate. So can anyone tell me some situation where Link Table is the only solution and not Concatenate. I'll eagerly waiting to hear from you all.
