I am trying to normalize vendor names from an Excel file and at the moment this is done by joining with a table having FromName and ToName. I then select field depending on whether the join matched or not:
IF(NOT IsNull(ToName),ToName,vendor) AS vendor,
But since the data is rapidly growing and most names start the same and differs only in the end (Inc., Ltd., etc) I would like to do this using with wildcard, e.g. VendorName* => VendorName. That way, with one row I could normalize all data starting with VendorName into just VendorName.
Anyone have a good clue how to do this? If I could use regular expression, that would be even better. I already have a regular expression replace function in VbScript, but I don't know how to loop and use it...
Please try to be as clear as possible seeing as I am new to QlikView with a background in PHP, Java and SQL with fair knowledge in VB.
