I am in the middle of a proof of concept exercise doing exactly what you are requesting. Unfortunately the detail is confidential but here is my experience.
I am currently a SAP BW/BI7 user (6 years) and am very frustrated by the overheads, complications, complexity of how things are done within that environment and frequently resort to Excel and Access to do our adhoc work, either because the data isn't in the SAP environment we have and is extremely difficult to import without reloading ODS's and Cubes etc or some of the work is just too complicated to do the SAP way, hence the picture.
I was tasked with finding a better, more flexible and professional reporting and analysis tool for my division of the company.
We have looked at most of the competition over the past 6-9 months, Business Objects, SPSS, Alterian, Faststats, Qlikview, Smartfocus, Microstrategy to name a few and for the money you will not find a better more flexible tool than Qlikview. Don't get me wrong these other products can do their stuff and very well, but, some are very expensive, some are very or more complicated to use.
I attended a roadshow yesterday in London and I don't believe you will find a better company, either in terms of flexibility, openness, transparency and just sheer enthusiasm for their product than Qliktech the company or Qlikview the product, all I can say is, when you have seen it in action on your data you will believe it.
