Chart Filter : Get rid of Qlik Sense biggest source of frustration

We all know and -I guess- love the Associative Engine. The green, the greys, the blank... etc. It's powerful and probably unique in the world of BI.

However, this feature does not cover a very simple use case : the need the filter on a chart, either by a dimension value or a measure value, the said dimensions and measures displayed or not in the chart.

That sounds simple but it's really hard to implement in Qlik. Of course, you can use if, agg or set analysis but I don't think it's user friendly or performant. It damages pretty much the idea of self-service.

So what I propose is a new section in the chart configuration : filter. Yep, you can make life very easier for every Qlik developer.

PS :  when I say "biggest source of frustration", just have a look on the forum :

I agree that this is causing the most frustration

I too am interested in this idea. Having chart filters would make it much more user friendly for our end users, and even for us, Developers.

Fyi, we added a shortcut recently to the expression editor to insert set expressions based on current selections.

It's a quick way insert a filter:

@Patric_Nordstrom  Hello. It's useful  (and far better than manually write the full set analysis myself 🙂  ) but it still write a set analysis while my idea is to filter a chart without having to write a set analysis.

Just a new section like "Sorting" or "Data" when you can filter the data. When I design a chart, it's really different steps and the UI should work like a developer work. Moreover, it makes a simple expression hard to read.

Simon

Just so you know, easy filtering is available in the Insight advisor, for instance the query:

"sales country except USA" will generate charts with filtered dimension values. The filtering can also be edited, see below:

Exposing this functionality in the sheet view could of course be valuable!

Thanks,

Hello @Patric_Nordstrom  Thanks. I already show that feature in my sales/pre-sales demo and training. However :
1/NLP is still seen as a gadget (I also work with Tableau, same issue on this topic)
2/It doesn't replace a filter for a chart.

Best regards,

Simon

Hi everyone,

Has this issue been solved? I have a bar chart that I have to show for 4 different countries, each with 4 different measures. Do I have to create 16 measures?

Thanks, regards,

Matías
