Data Manager - excel beyond Excel

Many customers of course happily load Excel files into Qlik Sense, produce data associations across tables and then sometimes deliver insights. Some use the Data Manager and some use scripts.

There is nothing in the Data Manager load wizard to really assist this process ! Only Embedded labels, fields on/off, header lines, basic filters, crosstab pivots, etc.

Can you please add more ?

If my XLSX has embedded content that needs "addressed" flag it and suggest tips in the product or deliver workaround solutions in the load capability :

  • Break groups / empty cells
  • Multi cell values
  • Subtotals
  • Excel functions eg vlookup possibly across sheets
  • Excel charts

Every one is relatively easy to address by a data architect in the script but for the common business analyst use cases maybe less so ?

There are many online Excel resources listing "top" features - review and look to deliver "workarounds" into the Qlik Sense load capability....

To me the Excel load capabilities are pretty much the same as they were back in QlikView days.

Also look at  Excel third-party utilities - many are great - can Qlik replicate them ?

Everything Qlik can do in this space helps address "Excel hell" and also Power BI competition. Many organisations still live with Excel. How many have even explored Qlik Sense as a replacement = market opportunity ?

Agreed Andrew. One of the blockers to expanding Qlik in many companies is change.  Finance are generally the key, for them change is risk, and that's one of their greatest fears. For others, they are just human and resist change. PowerBi is in familiar territory for them, which is why they gravitate towards it, despite the fact it ultimately costs more.

De-risking Qlik, in all their eyes, would be massive.
