Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Connector for Qlik Sense Cloud

<It would be nice if there would be also a connector for Microsoft ERP System Dynamics 365 Business Central in Qlik Sense Cloud. This is API: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav/api-reference/v2.0/

For Dynamics 365 Business Central Cloud Azure Active Directory Authentication would be necessary. Basic Authentication is currently also possible but will be turned off in 2022 (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/upgrade/deprecated-features-...). For Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem Basic and Azure Active Directory Authentication are supported. Most Customers have only setup Basic Authentication.

Hi @Carl_Hunter , @AlexOmetis ,

I'm in need of some help here indeed.

For one, I've setup the OData V4 URL's in the web services of BC (on premises). This is setup as a page, because this is used for Power BI already. Though they generate a http:// instead of https://. I'm guessing this can already be one issue.

This is an example URL that has been created:

http://{servername}:{code}/{name}/ODataV4/Company('name')/Items

Entering this in the REST connector with the basic authentication gives me an error saying: Error applying URI restrictions

Probably due to my missing https:// I guess, and maybe because of not using the Web Services Access Key.

Then I've taken a look at the Web Services Access Key and under Users -> My User (in BC) I can find that my account indeed has a Web Services Access Key generated. But where do you enter this in the REST connector?

Thanks guys for taking the time, it's appreciated!

Yes, you'll want to use HTTPS if possible, but otherwise you should be able to configure Qlik Sense to allow you to use HTTP (look at the "Allow only HTTPS" in the REST connector maybe?).

As for authentication - I had to revisit this the other day so it's fresh in my mind fortunately! You select Basic Authentication and then put your User ID from BC into the user box and your Web Services Key into the password. I'm doing this in a cloud version though, so there's a chance it's different...

Hi @JordyWegman , hmm, on prem BC may require some configuration to expose the BC server to the outside world, and allow inbound traffic into your network.

With on prem BC, you have access to the backend SQL database, then, you could use Qlik DataTransfer to upload data to SaaS, rather than using the Web Services to pull from BC.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try the Qlik DataTransfer option first indeed, while it seems more feasible than setting up the REST connector.

I'll let you know what comes out of this.

@Carl_Hunter @AlexOmetis , I've setup the Qlik DataTransfer with the Azure SQL connector and this was a perfect solution. Some limitations in the QDT, but that can resolved in different ways.

Thanks again for your help!

Glad you got sorted @JordyWegman ! Now if someone from Qlik could sort this BC Connector - nobody seems to want to reply!

Can anyone from Qlik comment on this idea? It's got quite a few upvotes and has been open for over 6 month now...

Thank you for this suggestion – and apologies for a late reply.

Certainly, a connector for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be of value, but it is currently not in our plan to address this on the roadmap for Qlik Sense. We will continue to re-evaluate our priorities to see when this could fit in.

Thanks for the update @P-O_Davidson, however, this is disappointing to hear that this feature is not on the plan.
