Qlik Sense SaaS - Publish over App of choice

At the moment the only way you can publish an app over the top of another one in SaaS is from the single app it was first published from.

This introduces at least a couple of issues for good version management etc:

  1. If you create a duplicate of the unpublished app, this can only serve as a backup as you can't then publish it over the top of the published one. However that backup is fairly useless as you'd have to either
    1. Manually revert the changes using the backup as a reference - copy/paste script and sheets etc
    2. Delete the published copy and re-publish from the backup - which would lose all private & community sheets/bookmarks etc and break any links to that App's URL as the ID would change.
  2. If you delete the originating app, there's no way to get an app back that can publish over the top (see my idea on duplicating from managed space that might resolve this as well/instead)

Why not allow selection of an app like in Client Managed?

And/or, if you duplicate an app in a personal/shared space keep the link to the managed app so you can publish either copy over the top.

And/or, allow overwriting an unpublished app when you import an app - that way you could at least take an export of the app as a backup and revert by uploading over the top

I see this got a couple of votes recently so I thought I'd update it... there is actually a way to do this, but it's a little non-intuitive if you ask me.

If you try to publish any app to a space where the name you're publishing to matches one that's there already then there's an extra dialog box that pops up. So if you have an app in a shared space called "Copy - Sales Dev" that you then publish to a managed space, giving it the name "Sales" where there's already an app with that name, then you'll see:

This only appears AFTER you've clicked the Publish button so it's not immediately obvious to the end user that you'll get this option - you feel like you're about to end up with another published app.

So I think this idea should really be about making this flow much more obvious and intuitive... and perhaps allowing you to select an app to publish over so you don't have to manually match the name and hope this dialog pops up.
