Hello everyone,

lately I have often been asked to rename a master element according to its use in a chart.

Unfortunately this is not possible, you can only change the name of the master element itself, but not case-related per used chart.

Therefore, it should be possible to rename it for each chart.

Can  you confirm if this idea has already been raised in the following post?

"It would be really useful to be able to customize the label of a master measure (or dimension) on a chart without unlinking it from the master measure. Often what the user wants to see displayed on the chart is different from what is a logical label for the master item."

yes, in fact, it's the same content. Unfortunately, the solution that Patric_Nordstrom represents is not sufficient.

There should be the possibility to change the name in each chart or object separately. An adjustment of the name within the "expression based label" is not sufficient.

Therefore the topic should at least be extended.

I support this requirement.  I have many master dims/measures related to a single concept.  An example is:

Sales (ex tax), Sales YTD, Sales MTD, Sales LYTD, Sales LYMTD

The user wants two table by categories, one showing current year, and the other ly:

Current Year                 Prev Year

Cat   MTD  YTD              Cat MTD YTD

 a         10      50                a      9      40

Clearly there is a need to be able to set custom labels when using master dims/measures.

I've wanted this for such a long time and it's just got even more important!

In the September 2020 release, you can now set the number format in master measures but you can also override the option locally in a chart - which is great. We need this for the measure name too. Especially since the you want descriptive names to get the most out of Insight Advisor Chat and promote self-service, but shortened or more specific names in an actual object.

Agree.  Shall be possible to rename a master item, without the need to unlink, while using it in gui objects.
