Self-service : limit, mitigate, stop or message back to users who are building extremely large apps

The situation involves a Qlik Sense “self-service” deployment. We have several users who can build their own apps. We noticed that there are a few users who create such large apps that it impacts the entire environment. We want to have a way that can limit, mitigate, stop or message back to the users who are building extremely large apps, “Narrow your data set down” or “Reduce your fields to only 20 (verse 80+)”, etc.?   We have used the HyperCube Limit parameter, but that doesn’t prevent these users from creating apps beyond that limit and causing the QS server to fail (already got feedback from Qlik: The peak ram measurement is not very accurate at all. For an isolated app open requests it very accurate, but for many calculation requests it is not).

Based on our past 6 years of experience administering Qlik on a big platform like JNJ, we can confidently say that this feature could stabilize the product like no other. Currently the engine just restarts  to mitigate the problem and this impacts all the users connected to that engine. Instead if we can set limits or have these warning messages and just abort the process, it would be so helpful. Just like the "calculation timeout error" if any user is requiting a large hypercube that would trigger an engine restart, then that request must be aborted instead of engine getting restarted, so that all users on that engine are not impacted.

Hi @RachelD thank you for providing us with this idea. We know it has been around for a while but we did some investigation. We are looking into the ability to limit the amount of Apps users can create in their Personal / my work area. The ability to specify the complexity / size / amount of data being returned / etc.  of those Apps as part of it will be further investigated.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi   @Thomas_Hopp , Thank you for looking into this. Will this investigation been done against the Qlik on-premise version or for Qlik Cloud ?
Any high-level estimate on when this would be made available?

Thanks & kind regards,
Rachel
