Difference between truncate & clear option in all DBoutput

Hi,
Can any1 explain me what is the difference between between truncate & clear option in all DBoutput.
Both of them seems to function similarly. Even the guide tells nothing much.
Can anyone help ?

truncate reclaims the space for the table, clear just deletes the rows.

Adding to above by janhess, truncate will be faster than delete.
