Grouping users together to share apps and upload data in Sense

I've just had QlikSense installed (browser based, not Desktop). We are trying to configure the QMC so that four key staff, can share their apps and upload Excel data, they are the first users, so I want them to be happy. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thank you!

Hi,

to upload data on the QMC, you key staff need to have admin access rights to be able to open the QMC.

take a look at this to know what type of role they need:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/1.1/Subsystems/ManagementConsole/Content/QMC_Entity_Users_DefaultR...

Also, on the hub (when using an app) each user (key staff) can create community sheet to be able to share it with others.

Even more, once approved, community sheet can be validated and moved to base sheets.

with this:

Qlik Sense QMC Utilities

mto it will be great is you can validate all this and maybe give us more info about sharing capabilities ?

Thank you

Hi guys - thanks Youssef for tagging me - there are a few ways that ContenAdmin roles (role defined in the QMC for the user) can have access to file-based data.

If the excel data columns remain the same and the data files are updated an refreshed / replaced - you may want to use this approach:

  • You can provide them with data connection Folder access (Folder is a type of data connection) - which will allow them to access folders on the enterprise server - this can be drive letters (d:\folder) and UNC (\\computer\share) - that way the files they use are always stored in one place (in that drive location) and can be updated / overwritten as if needed  (this can be locked down further with security rules and windows security)

This video (slightly older interface) but still applicable:

Loading Excel and File Data (video)

  • They can upload (or attach) files to an app - this actually makes the file available as an object as part of the app - they can actually use local files on their machines and attach them to a the Qlik Sense Enterprise server app they create. However if the Excel data is refreshed / updated - in order to reflect this in their app - they need to attach a new file each time and reload the data manually in the app. This is a manual step - where as the previous step can be automated with a task as new data comes into the folder location on a regular basis.

Here is an older video on the topic - but it is still applicable:

Qlik Sense - Attaching local data files

They can also use Dropbox - where they store files on a dropbox folder and use the dropbox connector to access that.

Please keep in mind all of this can be controlled via security rules - which is another topic and help is available in our online help site.
