How often does a Qlik Sense Mobile User have to log in?

This article focuses on the Qlik Sense Mobile App (QSM) for SaaS Editions of Qlik Sense. The Qlik Sense Mobile App compatible with On-Prem installations have their sessions governed by the setup of the on-premise environment.

Terminology note: A QSM app refers to a mobile app that one would download from the Google Play or Apple stores. An IdP application refers to a configuration managed by the IdP vendor's UI whose purpose is to provide connectivity to a QCS (Qlik Cloud Services) tenant.

How often does a Qlik Sense Mobile User have to log in?

Generally, a QSM app user never has to re-login. That is the benefit of the OAuth protocol and the token and refresh-token architecture implemented by Qlik and used by QSM to communicate with QCS.

The exceptions:

  1. User inactivity (30 days without using the app)
  2. Incomplete IdP application configuration
  3. Explicit revocation by an administrator

User inactivity

A user who has not connected to a tenant via their QSM app for 30 days will automatically be required to login again.

Incomplete IdP application configuration

Some IdPs may not be fully configured to support a prolonged login session. This will result in QSM app users having to re-login either every 6 hours (approximately) or once per day. For a prolonged login session the IdP configuration can be adjusted. The most common issues affecting the during of a login session are:

  • Refresh tokens are not enabled, not supported or not set to a pro-longed value
  • The OAuth scope offline_access is not included in the configuration

For additional tips around Okta and Salesforce IdPs, see Related Content at the bottom of the page.

Explicit revocation by an administrator

For emergency, security-related reasons, the following actors may have the power to force logout (revoke tokens).

  • QCS tenant administrators (via the Management Console Users page)
  • IdP administrators (via the vendor-specific User Interface)
  • Qlik administrators (for customers using QlikIdP as their IdP)

It is expected this scenario would be infrequent.
