Q and A:

Q: We recently upgraded to the April 2020 version, and previously had 25 licenses.  Now in the new model we have 5 pro licenses and 20 analyzer licenses.  How was this determined?  Can we make some of the analyzer licenses back into pro?
A: The simple process of upgrading from one version to another of Qlik Sense does not change the license in any way.   This sounds like a token to professional/analyser conversion.   Contact your partner or account manager if you want to discuss remixing.

Q: Hi, does this mean LEF disappears?
A: The SLK is a replacement for license and control number activation.   The LEF itself will remain but in new encoded SLD format, but the old style LEF activation will not be around forever.

Q: Can all existing LEF licenses be supplied as SLK? If so, how?
A: For the most part yes, but with some major exceptions.   We can actually provide a SLK for all licenses, but the actual software may not support it, particularly older versions of QlikView/NPrinting/Sense.    QlikView licenses with CALs (Named/Session) cannot be used with a SLK.

Q: Can SLKs supplied for Enterprise Servers also be used for Test Servers, or would an additional SLK be required?
A: With SLK activation of a license, you can use the same license on any number of servers you choose. One can be a production server, and another a test server. Just remember that users will be synced across all the servers using that license. If you have a QSE for Windows subscription, you are entitled to a separate Test and Development license with the same user allocation as the enterprise subscription.

Q: Can QlikView use Analyzer capacity?
A: Yes, QlikView, when activated using a Unified AMP license SLK, can consume Analyzer Capacity.

Q: Can we make the SLD readable as e.g. the LEF?
A: We are in the process of providing a method of doing this.

Q: Much of this webinar is based on QlikSense…. Does this also apply to QlikView legacy licensing as well?
A: No, QlikView licenses which use CAL type licenses (Named, Session, Document) do not use the SLK or Qlik License Service at this time.

Q: My Qlik Sense servers are on different domains, I don't want to see domain1\users on my domain2 server's qmc.
A: In that case, you need two different QSE licenses. Or you can filter out the user list in the QMC using the Search functionality and User Directory != UnwantedDomain.

Q: Do i see just a sum up of allocated licenses on domain1 from domain2 (and reversal)?
A: Not sure I quite follow, but in the License usage summary page you will see the numbers of each license type allocated (Professional/Analyzer). It does not distinguish domains. For that, you can use the Users tab and filter to see a full list of users from each domain.

Q: One of our customers used the ip address instead of license.qlik.com and he remarks that it is changed sometimes. is that right?
A: Yes, the IP address is not fixed.

Q: Is the Qlik Licensing service available for all versions of QlikView and Sense?
A: No, unfortunately not. The QLS was introduced in Sense February 2019 and QlikView April 2019. From Feb 2020, NPrinting also supports the QLS. Earlier versions do not support the QLS.

Q: Is a user active the entire time they have an app open? What if they open it but leave it idle and work outside Qlik?
A: A user is considered active when they are clicking around in an app. Simply leaving the browser open is not considered active. For example, opening an app and clicking in it will consume 6 minutes.  If the user then leaves the browser open for 20 minutes, comes back and clicks around again, they will have consumed 12 minutes of Capacity. The minimum unit of Capacity consumption is 6 minutes.

Q: From the middle of the year, Qlik Sense Desktop will need to be licensed from Qlik Sense Enterprise.
A: Qlik Sense Desktop will need to authenticate against Qlik Sense Enterprise or Qlik Sense Business is more accurate.

Q: Will a user need to be on the internet permanently to use Qlik Sense Desktop with a license or will he/she be able to lease a license from the enterprise server which will allow usage offline for a number of days without having to connect to the internet
A: No, Qlik Sense Desktop will unlock for 30 days. Each time the user open QSD, it will attempt to connect QSE/QSB to renew the 30 days. So users can go 30 days with no internet connection.

Q: The delayed sync is possible only one time for a license number?
A: Delayed sync activation will function up until the end date of the sync period. Applying a license on more than one machine is only permitted if all the machines are able to connect and sync to our license server.

Q: Are there any changes to QlikView licensing?
A: There are no changes to existing QlikView CAL licenses.

Q: We have found that in our environment running Nov 2019 Patch 5 with a signed license key, that only users with professional license can use the QMC. Is this by design since older license models did not require a license for QMC usage?
A: QMC usage doesn’t require a professional user but if the user has an allocated analyzer license then that user will not get full QMC access.

Q: Does that mean there is no way anymore to have an offline Qlik license for an unlimited time (or at least more than 2 months)?
A: In a subscription world, completely offline usage is not desirable. It is possible to have longer term offline usage with special approval from Customer Success along with agreeing to other terms of offline use.

Q: Some server will never be online or have port 443 open. How will these servers be activated?
A: Using the same activation method as Delayed Sync, however the license must be specially enabled for offline use and approval must be obtained from Customer Success along with agreeing to other terms of offline use.

Q: How does Dual Use license work?
A: When a customer enters in to a Dual use Qlik Sense & QlikView agreement there are 2 options

1. Use separate licenses for QSE and QVS so the two products operate independently and have their own user types (QSE:Pro/An and QVS:CALs)
2. Use a single unified license key for both QlikView and Qlik Sense.  Users are shared and are of type Pro/An.

Q: Once you enter the SLK, can you go back to LEF?
A: Not easily, no. If you have successfully activated with the SLK there shouldn’t be a reason to return to the lic/ctrl activation now that Delayed Sync is available. If you are stuck, contact tech support for help.

Q: Will Qlik Sense Desktop be able to be licensed from a Qlik Business account from the middle of the year.
A: No. Qlik Sense Desktop can be authenticated against QSB and QSE SaaS editions. See How to authenticate Qlik Sense Desktop against SaaS editions

Q: When will WebConnectors support the SLK?
A: Most likely from September 2020.

Q: Is there any way of using Analyzer Capacity when the customer doesn't want to grant internet access to the server?
A: Not at this time, no, Capacity requires a connection to the Qlik license backend server.

Q: Hi, I would like to know if Analyser Capacity is also available for QlikView only setup?
A: No.  Capacity is only available in QV through a unified license key using an AMP deal.

Q: What is the difference between Analyzer license and Analyzer Capacity?
A: An Analyzer license is based on an identified user, unlimited access to apps. Capacity is based on the amount of time a user is active. User may be identified or anonymous.

Q: Could you provide some best practices in license assignment in QMC?
A: Only two options, manual or automatic allocations. This could be set differently for Professional and Analyzer. Watch out when there are Analyzer Capacity included so this would not be consumed by users that should have a allocated user.

Q: Is there a way to cleanout unused licenses automatically?
A: No. Please refer to the license metrics documentation.

Q: If a user has an application open just sitting there but not actively using the application are they still charged minutes?
A: No, only when they are active.

Q: Can we have a mixture of the old tokens and new Analyzer licenses
A: No, the two license types cannot be combined on the same license number.

Q: When we used analyzer capacity, when we are opened app = 6 min, when we do nothing in opened app, will be used 6 min more ?
A: No, they would only consume more time if they are active in the app.

Q: Does QlikView and Qlik Sense patch level need to be the same for this license mechanism to work?
A: No.

Q: If the Qlik license server goes down (offline) what are the impacts?
A: The grace time is 72 hours before the Qlik Licensing Service needs to be up and running.

Q: After 60 days, is it possible to repeat the procedure for the Delaying Activation?
A: No, at this point you should have your deployment connected to Qlik Licensing Service or received a permanent off-line approval. Request this via your account manager or technical support.

Q: Is there no option anymore to have an offline SLK for clients (like in banking industry) for an illimited time?
A: There is, if off-line is approved.

Q: Could you provide some good practices in allocating licenses to users in QMC?
A: Keep rules simple and as few as possible. For best practice and real world guidance contact Tech Support.

Q: QlikView, license lease is allowed only for production server and not in TEST server license. How Qlik desktop obtain license if there is no connectivity to PROD site?
A: That is a problem. If there is no possibility of connecting to the PROD server to lease a license, then a standalone QlikView Desktop license should be obtained, if possible.

Q: Do we need to get a newSLK every 60 days?
A: No. The SLK stays the same. An update is only requested if you have got an approval to be off-line.

Q: How does the SLK work with Dual licensing.
A: A dual-use / AMP unified license can be deployed on both QlikView and Qlik Sense servers/sites. All deployments using the same Signed Licesne Key would be sharing the same Professional/Analyzer/Analyzer Capacity license.

Q: QlikView, license lease is allowed only for production server and not in TEST server license. How Qlik desktop obtain license if there is no connectivity to PROD site?
A: QlikView Desktop has to connect to QlikView Production server to lease a license or has its own QlikView Local Client license.

Q: Do we need to get a newSLK every 60 days?
A: No. The SLK stays the same. An update is only requested if you have got an approval to be off-line.

Q: Is there a possibility of Concurrent usage with floating licenses (like Qliview had Session cals)?
A: No, we do not offer a concurrent license with Qlik Sense Enterprise

Q: Is Analyzer Capacity optional?
A: Yes, you can buy this to your Qlik Sense Enterprise deployment.

Q: Is there a way to have a permanently offline access with a SLK? Or at least a way to renew the offline option on a yearly basis?
A: Yes, special approval for offline can be request through your account manager or via Support.

Q: Will I be able to use analyzer capacity licenses with my existing Qlik Sense perpetual licenses.
A: No. Analyzer Capacity is available on Subscription only. Subscription and Perpetual licensing cannot be mixed.

Q: What about opening a case from the support portal since we do not see the signed licensed in the list of our managed license (we're partner)?
A: You can and should always use the License ID.

Q: Once you use a SLK would you ever be able to revert to Key and Control number or is it a pointless exercise?
A: SLK is the go forward model. License Key and Control number will be phased out.

Q: How long can we continue to use the token access model we currently have?  Will we be forced to change at some point?
A: There has been no discussion to discontinue the Token License model.
