Fixing corrupt QVF without losing community sheets?

Hello,

We have a situation where a QVF apparently got corrupted; attempting to open the app results in an "Unsupported file format" error message. We are also unable to export the app or publish over it.

Is our only option to delete the app from the QMC and publish a new instance even though doing so is going to delete any community sheets associated with the app?

Is there anything we can do to prevent the loss of the community sheets?

What if, instead of deleting the app thru the QMC, I manually delete the corrupt QVF from the file system and replace it with an new instance with the same name/UUID as the deleted instance?

Thanks for any help,

Steven

All sheets, both public, private and community are stored in the source application file in the file system.

These sheets are not included when you duplicate the application in the QMC nor HUB, but if you

1. make a copy of that file via the file system.

2. Rename that file, giving it the .qvf ending

3. Import it to Qlik Sene using QMC

Then, when you open that app  you should be able to see all sheets. You will not have stored any owner info, because that is stored in the repository database.

if the file is corrupt as you say then you might have lost all sheets, unless you have a file system backup that you can retrieve and replace the broken/corrupt file.

Similar, if you delete that file in the qlik share application folder then you loose your sheets.

Some other things you could try (you might already have tried it) is to reload the application from the qmc, or try to open  it without data from the hub.

Hi, I suppose you don't have a backup of the files, isn't? If you have it I would try to recover it.

Another option could be trying to open without data -> Right click on the the app in the hub and select the option to open without data.

About this "What if, instead of deleting the app thru the QMC, I manually delete the corrupt QVF from the file system and replace it with an new instance with the same name/UUID as the deleted instance? "

I think that the qvf also stores the community sheets, so the new instance should have the community sheets, and I suppose you don't have it. Anyway, before doing anything with the real app, maybe it's worth to make a test with a new app with some dummy script (CTRL+00 or simple inline), create a community sheet, and then do a new app and replace the first one to see what happens.

Before you  export from qmc ,  change the app owner of app to qmc login id.
makes sure login id to have role with "deployment admin" or "content admin" or "Root admin" or any customadmin with proper rights.

once after export , check in Qliksense desktop.
