Folder connection is not available in QlikSense 3.2

Dear Community,

We have just purchased QlikSense, but do not see a Folder connection within connections, even using a Root admin account.

How do we connect to a windows network drive then?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Omar,

Thank you for a reply. So how can I connect to a directory on the network, or at least to a file in this directory? So far I can neither list the directory contents, nor link to a specific file to load it.

Hi Anton,

I think your problem is to create a folder connection with a shared drive rather than creating folder connection.

Please read below two points:

1. Are you accessing hub via remote(outside of Qlik Server) if yes, then you can't create folder connection as you want, if you create like this , you local machine folder path will work.

2.  Are you trying to create folder connection with network shared drive, if yes , then use UNC path in folder connection window \\localhost\c$\my_dir and try it.

... accesses a folder called "my_dir" via UNC on your C: drive. By default all the hard drives on your machine are shared with hidden shares like c$, d$, etc.

Hi Rohit,

As I have asked in the beginning:

How do we connect to a windows network drive then?

I am accessing the hub via a web-browser, I have tried this both inside and outside the QlikSense server. I assume, it is possible to create a network share connection from Qlik server to a server, where this network share resides, and present it as a data connection for all Qlik users.

I have mounted a network shared drive (Z:) to the server as well, but it does not display in the dialog and is not accessible via your command:

\\localhost\z$\my_dir

also, and I have seen in the documentation, that this is not possible anyway.

Qlik can only access a network share via a folder dialogue, by specifying a network path. But this does not work either (Invalid path) as on the picture above.

Hi Anton,

It is working here, I have a different server where I have created a folder and I put the path as \\10.9.52.105\e$\Data\Qlik Data\QVDs and it is working fine.

Hello Rohit,

I am doing exactly the same, and instantly getting "Invalid path".

Is your share password-protected?

Is there any security policy in Qlik, which I should disable to connect to a network share?

In the target location I do not have $e or other drives shared, as I have just a clear samba share, which is even simpler. Looks like

\\192.168.8.14\mydirectory\Customer Care\my-reports

Hi Anton,

does the Qlik Sense Service User have access to the network-shared directory?

Can you try to log as that user on the server and navigate to the network-shared directory?

Hi Anton,

In my network, there is single sign on concept, so I don't need to add credentials while accessing the other server or location on any other server.

I didn't do anything to access that folder. There is nothing to able or  disable.

My point is , if you put this path without mounting \\192.168.8.14\mydirectory\Customer Care\my-reports into window explorer , I believe you can access the path.

There is something which we are missing under networking area.

Hi Riccardo,

Qlik Sense Service is running as a system service. When I log in with the admin user's credentials, under which it is installed, I can navigate to the network path with no issues. In Qlik Sense I still get errors.

Hi Anton,

can you check with the admin user if the Qlik Sense Service User is included in the security of the directory?

Hi Riccardo,

Thank you. We have traced this issue down to the fact our network share is password protected and qlik does not give a possibility to supply user credentials for Folder. Therefore the system tries to do it as a guest and fails.

Do you know about any best practice or a way to provide user credentials via Qlik?
