Hi Michael

Thank you for your sharing .

I just manage to install the iOS App ,I realise that i can either doing 2 thing :-

1) open the demo app.

2) need to have enterprise license , in order to view my QVF from app

So in summary for QS development , the IOS app does not allow me to load my QVF app right ?

Correct - it is read, view interact only for published apps available in stream for the logged in user. To those whom have an Enterprise license and for those whom have been granted offline access from the Qlik Management Console.

Hi!

Custom theming is great news !

I could not find docs about the use of CSS in custom themes. Are we supposed to use browser dev tools to find the classes to use in custom CSS or will there be guidelines? I'm actually apllying custom style for sheet (background....), are there good practice to ensure that my custom stylesheet will not be affected by change of classes in future versions?

If you're wanting a quick start for Custom Themes, check out our basic theme builder... https://www.ometistoolkit.com/themebuilder

It doesn't go as far as it sounds like you want to go martinien‌ (at least not yet) but others may find it useful.

Michael, is the theme extension available TODAY? Maybe in a patch we've yet to download? Please advise.

Thanks!

You make the theme and import it as an extension - it's not an extension that allows you to create/edit themes. You have to create the theme externally and then import it - and that works from the Feb 2018 release onwards.

The tool you mention is VERY basic.  It really doesn't even begin to touch on the various capabilities of the new Theme capability.

There is a lot of good information on the Qlik help site related to this capability.  It gives you all the information on what you can do with themes in this release.

@jok - as you say it's a basic tool and is meant to give people who'd be intimidated by CSS/JSON or who just want something simple and quick a place to start. We thought we'd get the Minimum Viable Product out there in case people find value in it. If you're comfortable with CSS etc then it's not the tool for you - at least not yet!

Hi All thanks for your questions / comments - I will answer all of them in this reply:

Tami - as Alex had mentioned - once the theme is created, it is packaged as an extension - at the time of writing this blog, our online help site with the theme documentation was not ready - it is today - here is the link if you want additional detail: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense-developer/February2018/Subsystems/Extensions/Content/custom-themes... - so in short you are coding - CSS / JSON, packaging the theme as an extension and then enabling it by using the QMC.

Alex- thank you for providing the link to https://www.ometistoolkit.com/themebuilder - that is a great concept tool and I definitely see the potential. It is a quick way to jump-start the theme process.

Rohit - please check out the customer download site: demo.qlik.com/download for the latest release notes.

Cheers!

Just to let folks know, creating themes is VERY easy.  You don't HAVE to use CSS, only if you want to.  You can still create really nice themes without them so don't let this scare you away from using this functionality

In a nutshell, the documentation is REALLY easy to follow and gives really good examples.  There is actually a complete example at the bottom of the help.qlik.com link below.

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense-developer/February2018/Subsystems/Extensions/Content/CustomThemes/...

So to create your theme, all you really need to do is:

  1. Create a directory called [your-theme-name]
  2. Copy that code example,
  3. paste it into any text editor,
  4. find and replace any of the color variable codes,
  5. save this as theme.json in your new directory,
  6. Create the *.qext file with the following information:
    { "name": "Custom theme",
    "description": "My first custom theme",
    "type":"theme",
    "version": "1.0.0",
    "author": "Qlik" }
  7. Save this [your-theme-name].qext file into your new directory;
  8. Zip the two files up;
  9. Import the zip file into the QMC under Extesions;
  10. Change the settings of your app to use your new theme.

That's it!!  Enjoy!

Thanks so much Michael, Alex, John et al, for the quick & helpful aids to our color-theme quandaries. Because we’re on deadline with several stream launches at moment, looks like we won’t be able to patch with Feb 2018 asap. But sure look forward to this happening so can take full advantage of all the new colorization features. Will also keep following you’re terrific thread here. Thanks again! –Tami.

Hi Alex

The mobile app only support those who purchase QS license , if you are using free version it does not support.

I think Qlik should high light it when release the new version in future , so it will have less confuse .

I've still not found where it's stated in the documentation, but to authenticate to Qlik Sense Desktop or Qlik Sense Mobile, you need a User Access Pass. I understand why this is the case with QS Mobile - as you can get offline access which might break the limitations of Login Access Passes. Not sure why you can't simply authenticate with Desktop if you have a Login Access Pass though - since there's no offline functionality there (at least not yet).

A bit late to the party... We've built an online visual editor for Qlik Sense Themes. Check it out, and let me know what you think Link: SenseTheme

Barry,

Very cool use of themes. Have you done anything to theme tables yet? I am not a developer so I am curious to know if things like coloring header rows, zebra stripping, or even multiple header rows on tables are possible using the theme extension.

Hi Qlik Support

Jesus request is very valid .

I have few table , now all are just white Color , I need to look at title of table , to know it belong to yearly table or monthly table.

If can use theme it will be very useful .

Now I use expression at background Color . Which is not so good.

Hi Jesus,

Formatting of tables is unfortunately not (yet?) supported in themes, though could probably be done with custom CSS. For now we've only focused on adding the properties that are actually supported. If you want more freedom around table formatting, then perhaps you could check out Vizlib, which has a very good table extension.

Kind regards,

Barry

Hi Paul,

It's free, does not support tables (yet, see reply to Jesus), and does not work on cloud.

Kind regards,

Barry
