I have never had the opportunity to try Tableau and Power BI, so this is very helpful to me. I Just have a question about association. As far as I know, the associative model is patented by Qlik, does it mean that all the other software are Query-based?
I am looking for a New BI tool which can provide self service BI capability (Where in the end user can create the reports on their own and share with other users). Looking into this, I have explored all BI tools and drilled down to Power BI and Qlikview.
Qlikview doesn't support the self service but Qlik sense does support (but on the cost of License when compared with Power BI). When I looked into the web, it shows that Power BI is leading (which is confirmed by the Gartner also).
Can someone please help me (keeping in the mind that we are having Enterprise Data Warehouse build and we need a reporting tool which will reduce time to market of report.)
I don't know regarding Query-based. But I do know that when drilling down or into the Qlik data that Qlik is much better than Power BI as detailed in my report. What I assume is that this is the result of Qlik's associative model.
As tends to be the case with the majority of Microsoft products, the greatest strength of Power BI is its level of integration with other Microsoft products. If you’re already using Office 365 and SQL Server, you have a good chunk of the most common data sources for using Power BI already in place. It’s a fairly quick jump from entering data into an Excel spreadsheet to producing a visualization in Power BI.
Microsoft’s current commitment to cloud-based computing extends a lot of the advantages of Power BI further. For example, the Power BI mobile app can be fully connected to the rest of the software stack. If you want a sales person in the field to have access to real-time information that’s being updated on your SQL Server installation, the dashboards you create in the mobile app can stream that information live to a phone or tablet.
QlikView Benefits
QlikView is widely regarded as the more mature and robust of the two BI solutions. It’s built especially well for analytic purposes, and anyone who comes from a programming or data science background is likely to find it less limiting. QlikView allows you to get into the guts of its scripting system and tinker around with any models you create, and that can be very beneficial if you need low-level access. You can also produce a wider range of visualizations and presentations using QlikView.
One area where QlikView really excels is in raw speed. By keeping its analytics capabilities in-memory, it allows anyone with sufficient processing resources to crunch a ton of data and develop insights fast. The ability to use QlikView on locally based computers is also important to managed organizations that have strict requirements regarding the availability and storage of sensitive information.
I would note, that ETL for me has always been easier with Power BI. The GUI approach helps with speed, then you can drop into the M language itself, which is very powerful.
The ETL tool for Power BI,( known as Query Editor, In excel (Yes this is part of excel now), as Get & Transform or Power Query.), can do a lot of the leg work for you, from using Parameters, functions, Groupings, Calculations, cleansing, setting data formats, and transforming data from one type to another, and dealing with Errors are amazing. One of the major pluses for Power BI is that you can see the data during the whole process is another big win for Power BI, each change logs a step in the process which quickly takes you to that part of the code/process
While I agree that Qlik Sense, has improved usability/ease of use on the ETL front, it is way behind Qlik Sense currently.
The fact that you can use the same ETL script between Power BI and Excel is amazing.
love Qlik Sense filters, which are clear, give much better feedback to the use, and most of the charts are a lot better to interact with (the ability to pan and zoom and lasso are big pluses for Qlik Sense in my book.
