If Master Items get a "face lift", can I add a couple of features that would make them so much more useful:
- Master Measures should carry their default "Number formatting". There is nothing more irritating than the need to always set the same number format over and over again, when using Master Measures in multiple charts. 99% of the time, the number format won't change from one chart to another. Having said that, an ability to override it when needed, would be helpful.
- Many times we are forced to un-link Measures and Dimensions from Master Items, just to override the default Label. It would be extremely helpful if we could override the Master Item Label at the chart level.
- It would be great to have a better development tool for Master Items. In large applications with hundreds of Master Measures, it is extremely hard to work with the left-side panel that doesn't show full names, and scrolls back to the top of the list after every edit... If we could have a full-screen option that could be opened on demand, with better editing tools, it would make the job a lot easier and more pleasant.
The other thing that's needed is a way to open the master dimension by clicking in the right hand greyed out measure or dimension. Say double click and it opens up the master dimension
Its a pain moving across to the left hand side and searching for it (and I assume this would be a fairly simple change).
-Maybe the ability to export master measures. To see them all in say excel.
-By reuse. I would like the option to convert the master measure to a value and then use this value by the charts dimensions in another measure.(Nesting one master measure in another one?). I know sum(aggr... etc can be used but its confusing to learn. And I would also like to be able to do everything using master measures.
Also using for coloring etc. but I would like more than just the equivalent of a variable.
In my ideal setup, variables and master items all work the same way. Add the re-usability of variables to master items and add the control and structure of master items to variables. In fact, I think variables could cease to exist if master items were properly structured.
