Load yyyy-mm-dd as mm/dd/yyyy

Having trouble loading my date field in the format as above using the date # function. Any tips on the correct syntax ?

So for instance I want to load 2014-05-15 as 05/15/2014 where my date field is called [SALES_DATE]
