Problems Opening an existing QVW file

I'm using Ver 9.0 Personal Edition. I have created a qvw file using the Personal Edition. However, when opening the qvw file with the Personal Edition, I am prompted that a license key file is missing and the qvw file cannot be opened and I have to use the recovery process to open it (there appears to be some limit on how many times this can be done). (Sorry the prompt is no longer displayed so I don't have the exact message). I'm confused because I created the qvw file within the my Personal Edition and I am opening it within my Personal Edition. I have already performed the recovery a few times within the last few days and only have 2 occurences remaining. Any ideas on why this is occuring? I have spent considerable time creating multiple pages and charts and don't want to have to recreate this.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you previously used the initial release of QlikView 9, you most likely still have the problem where switching networks will ask you to recover your qvw files. The network switching problem will disappear at first when your files are recovered by QlikView 9 SR1. This is the case right now because we didn't want to force everyone to make a recovery after installing SR1. Everyone that has the network switching problem in SR1 will have to make one recovery to get rid of the problem. We are really sorry for inconvenience and we will help everyone that has run out of recovery attempts on their qlikview installation.

If you didn't use the initial release of QlikView 9 at all, you will not have the network switching problem.

Dear kjn,

thanks for your answer.

Unfortunatly I looked at the original installation file and version is 9.0.7257.6 - which is if I am not mistaken file version of SR1.

I downloaded the file from QV site on 30.09. meaning I never had version lower then stated above and never performed any upgrade.

I am testing QV for my company, we had presentations from Business objects, Microsoft, Qlikview, Cognos, etc...

Now I am testing the tools, sorry to say that others do not have bugs like this that make days of work lost in vain...

I too was following the tutorial and saved a document. When I tried to open it I got a message about "the document contains inconsitencies". I was on the same machine, same user, same network.

I am running QlikView on Windows Vista. Let me know when SR2 comes out. I am looking forward to evaluating the product.

We have found and fixed a bug that has caused the error 'file inconsistencies' error to occur when using the SAVE AS operation in QlikView Personal Edition. The link to the patch is below. Note that this patch is an intermediate fix for 9.0 SR1. Please ensure that you have the baseline 9.0 SR1 install in place before proceeding with this patch. The patch will be fully integrated into the 9.0SR2 release due in November. (I will post a note on this forum when SR2 is released.)

To download the patch please access from the following location

To download 32-bit package, use http://d1cf4w4kkla6tb.cloudfront.net/qlikview/9.00/7262 QV, QVPlugin/bin/_Qv/QV.7262.exe

To download 64-bit package, use http://d1cf4w4kkla6tb.cloudfront.net/qlikview/9.00/7262 QV, QVPlugin/bin/_QVx64/QV.7262.exe

After completing download, run the EXE

Review the patch build disclaimer

Choose the destination location for the patch files - this should be the root QlikView install location (in my case C:\Program Files\QlikView)

Note that this prevents further SAVE AS errors. It does not fix any documents that you have already created with SAVE AS and are exhibiting the File Inconsistency error.

Thanks

Hi,

Any news regarding this? I started out with the initial 9 PE edition, used up all my recoveries, most likely due to the office docking station/home WAN problem. I just installed SR2 but still can't revcover the files. How can I recover them???

Thanks for the help!

Just like a number of fellow QV-Personal Edition user I am at risk now that I will loose all the files I created, because without apparent reason I now have the message that QV will not load my previously created documents unless I recover this one file and loose all my other documents and save just the recovered one.

I am working on a laptop and I only use / start QV when I am not connected to a network. Obviously buying a license would solve the problem, but that is not an option just now, I first need to complete the evaluation.

All advice is welcome here.

Regards, Jan

Could you please advise if it is possible to fix issues with previously generated files.. I receive "your installation of Qlikviw has exceeded the maximum number of document recoveries ......." message on any exsisting file that i open.

If required i have no major issue with upgrading but want some confidance that this is not part of ongoing issues with the product, I feel i am not misusing the licence offered at the moment and would like to complete my evaluation before upgrading....

A solution would be great if at all possible.

Hi, i am having problems with QV9PE too.

I have never changed my notebook hardware or opened files in other PCs, but QV would pop the "need to recover" message for no reason. Lately I have been associating this with the windows password change. When I had to change my windows password (company security policy, once a month i think) I had to spend another "recovery attempt".

Is this the intended functioning of the key? Because this, FOR SURE, sets an evaluation period for the license, and even lower than the previous versions that only counted used days. Far different from the announced "limitless for personal use".

Today I opened qlikview and, even though I have not changed the windows password, it asks me to use the last recovery attempt do open it. Just out of nowhere

What shoud I do?

I am using windows xp professional and QV9PE version 9.00.7119.4 . Does this version has the network status bug i just read about? how do I get rid of it? How do I get my recovery attempts "refunded"?

Thanks in advance,

Gabriel

It seems that you have the first release of QlikView 9 (9.00.7119) and that version has issues with the network status affecting the personal edition license. Upgrade to QlikView 9 SR2. That might solve your problem. If not, we will investigate your issue in detail.
