I'm using Ver 9.0 Personal Edition. I have created a qvw file using the Personal Edition. However, when opening the qvw file with the Personal Edition, I am prompted that a license key file is missing and the qvw file cannot be opened and I have to use the recovery process to open it (there appears to be some limit on how many times this can be done). (Sorry the prompt is no longer displayed so I don't have the exact message). I'm confused because I created the qvw file within the my Personal Edition and I am opening it within my Personal Edition. I have already performed the recovery a few times within the last few days and only have 2 occurences remaining. Any ideas on why this is occuring? I have spent considerable time creating multiple pages and charts and don't want to have to recreate this.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
How can I get the valid license key? Can I get one just for myself to be able to open any file from this forum!?
If you are interested in acquiring a license, contact a local QlikView sales office to discuss your interest. We are reviewing the files on QlikCommunity and updating those that can be useful to all users, whether fully licensed or Personal Edition users, so that you can use them. You'll know which files have been updated by them being flagged as ok for Personal Edition use.
This might not apply to everyone's problem who posted in this topic but i do see some similarities in some problems users are encountering. See this thread.
Using the Qlikview PEedition suddenly all my files were unable to load and I get a messagemy maximum number of recovery attemps has been reached. Even if I make a newdocument, save it and open it straight away, I get the error messages Icannot open it. After updating the qlikview version, de-installing andreinstalling the problem was still there.
Finally i found out the problem is the login name to my windowsaccount. I accidentally logged on to the PC while capslock was activewhile I usually login with my username in lower caps. I logged off andthis time changed the login name back to lower caps and voila I canopen all my qlikview files again. Apparently Windows doesn't care if Ilogin with caps or not but some how Qlikview is very "case sensitive"about this.
Weird thing is I reinstalled Qlikview using the uppercase loginname. I also tried only having one letter in uppercase and i canreproduce the problem. It is possible the topic starter made the same"mistake" with logging in to Windows.
I am using Personal Edition...Version 9.00.7320.7 SR2
Had a power failure during data load from .qvd files...
Can't open the file anymore... Neither on my laptop, neither on work laptop, neither on tutor's laptop...
1) This file contains inconsistencies an can not be opened by Personal Edition -> OK (Only on my laptop with personal edition)
2) The document [filename] failed to load -> OK (all PC's)
3) Failed to open the documen -> OK (all PC's)
So create backups
I am encountering the same problem as many have ... not being able to open a file I previously created because I am at home office versus company office. However, I have not seen any recent mention of this problem so - is it supposed to be fixed? I am running a recently loaded personal edition version 9.00.7436.8 SR3.
Did you run out of recovery attempts before installing SR3?
Or does your problem apply to files created in SR3 only?
I believe this is totally SR3. I only loaded QV for the first time this month. I am only using files I have created myself. Since I am just exploring and have not done any significant work, I have not wasted a recovery attempt.
Hi John!
I've contacted Qlikview support and they refers to you.
I've a installation of SR1 where I've created a document. I've switched from my home network to my work network. I got the same problem as many others in this thread: PE can't be recovered anymore. i've used the same computer and files all the time...
I've tried to uninstall SR1 to SR2 and SR3 but it doesn't solve the problem. I've got the same message again and again and again.

I have recently installed QV SR3 and getting the same issue with file recovery. I am down to 1 attempt Have their been any updates on this item? I am evaluating the product and very interested in purchasing the full license but do need to complete the evaluation before proceeding...
One thing to note in my situation is as most other users, I am seeing the problem appear on my laptop which is used in a LAN connected, wireless connected via VPN and disconnected modes. On this machine I have seen repeated issues with the recovery error. In each scenario I have recreated the file and saved. After closing the application and attempting to reopen the same file (all in the same session) I am getting the error again.
We have also attempted to load QV personal edition on a "server" which has static IP and is never off of the network... Thus far I have not seen this issue rear it ugly head in this scenario, I am hopeful that we can complete testing on the dedicated machine.
Any insight that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. As I mentioned previously we are very interested in the product but need to clear this hurdle before taking the next step.

Hi,
I came across this thread while googling for my problem. I am using Qlikview 9 SR3 and have started using it about 1 month back with no problems. My data and qkw file are all stored in my company's network drive.
Starting this week, I started having problems with it. With qlikview prompting me to recover my file when I open it. I suspect it is the same as the inital problem first described here as I brought my laptop home over the last few days (and hence no connection to network drive) I recovered it 2 times in hope that this problem will not resurface, but unfortunately it has and I am down to my last 2 recoveries.
I am preparing my reports to management so I can make my presentation to management on purchasing this product and hope this matter can be resolved.
Thank You
