Qlik Sense allows to build complex, highly dynamic apps. In this case often variables are used which are represented with e.g. the variable-extension as drop-down, button or slider.
Users´s would like to save the status of those selections saved in variables to quickly retrieve values for the most used analysis.
Saving state of variables in bookmarks should be configurable.
a) flag some variables not to be part of bookmarks
b) when saving bookmark decide whether state of variables is included or not
Thank you for your feedback on ways to improve our product. While this is something we understand would be useful, it's not on the short-term roadmap. Please continue to show your support for this idea.
It will be soo useful I'm posting my comment on both relevant ideas...
Hi Patric,
I agree, saving Variable values to bookmarks would be very useful. Especially for Alerts and Subscriptions (we are now using SaaS).
We were advised (by Qlik) to use Variables when creating a dynamic dashboard which allows KPI's to be switched between MTD/YTD etc. With those variables passing values to the measures. (Also to control dimensions and measures in charts) .
However, when creating Alerts and Subscriptions, we cannot save the variable values in the bookmark, so we have had to back-out this design and use data islands for this purpose instead.
However, in the performance documentation Qlik states
Data islands avoided
Data islands can be useful, but they usually affect performance. If you are creating islands for selection values, use variables.
In order to fully utilize Alerts and Subscriptions with this dynamic design, we must use data islands and master measures without user chosen variables.
Once variable are saved in the bookmarks, we will no longer require data islands to deliver this dynamic functionality.
This feature was delivered in SaaS in the end of October. Now, ff you create a bookmark in an app with variables, you can save the current variable state. Please check out the SaaS change log for more information.
