Carbon Footprint - Ability to see how much Carbon is used by each app on SaaS

With the Climate Emergency, we are becoming more aware of our carbon usage or footprint.  Would it be possible in SaaS to see how much carbon each app is using or potentially saving.  This would then produce an overall figure for the Tenant.

At some stage Qlik would then be in a position to identify how much Carbon is being used across Qlik Clouds.  This could be referenced against how much Carbon would have been used for On-premise systems.  Or/and ideas on how we can offset this

This is an idea and could do with some more shaping to see how it could be delivered, but we need to start now, not when it is too late.

Happy to discuss further.

Stay safe.

Hello @CHansford

Frankly, I'm very skeptical about the feasability of this one : not only you have to get the energy consumption of each app (through cpu or ram, maybe), but possibly the consumption of the client for rendering (because you can have low consumption on server side and really high consumption on client side due to bad quality javascript in an extension)... and then having an idea of this energy carbon footprint, which depends of a lot of factor, such as energy mix from your provider. Also, the impact is not the same if you reload your app during night time (when you may consume energy that would be lost however) or day time.

Best regards,

Simon

Simon,
Yes it is complicated and frankly it I'm sceptical as well, however just giving us the amount of Carbon that is being used to store the app on the Tenant's data centre is moving in the right direction.
