Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Connector for Qlik Sense Cloud

<It would be nice if there would be also a connector for Microsoft ERP System Dynamics 365 Business Central in Qlik Sense Cloud. This is API: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav/api-reference/v2.0/

For Dynamics 365 Business Central Cloud Azure Active Directory Authentication would be necessary. Basic Authentication is currently also possible but will be turned off in 2022 (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/upgrade/deprecated-features-...). For Dynamics 365 Business Central OnPrem Basic and Azure Active Directory Authentication are supported. Most Customers have only setup Basic Authentication.

@P-O_Davidson How about oauth for the rest connector?

@Quarry That would be good, there is a separate idea on here for oauth authentication on the rest connector but it has not been answered by Qlik yet. I've commented on it a few times but its fallen on deaf ears (see here > https://community.qlik.com/t5/Suggest-an-Idea/Add-OAuth-Support-for-the-Rest-Web-Service-Connector-i...)

Its very disappointing that Qlik does not have a solution for extracting data from Microsoft Business Central, neither Qlik Data Integration nor Data Analytics (Qlik Sense) have a way of connecting.

@Carl_Hunter thanks for pushing this!

But two months later and a few months in front of Web keys end: Is there any news about the roadmap?

It would also be great to have it in the Web Connector package like Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM (V2) connector which works fine with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and Dataverse.

 @Jamie_Gregory @P-O_Davidson  any news? Else we have to find an other solution which might not be Qlik anymore as Power BI is integrated in Dynamics 365.

@to759_PM Its ridiculous that an idea which is so well supported on ideation is not being considered, especially as Power BI is fairly well integrated with Business Central, and makes the Qlik 'sell' into a BC customer very difficult

@Carl_Hunter I totally agree, while I have to work with Qlik DataTransfer and although that works.. having a connector would be way easier. I really have a hard time convincing customers that Qlik is a better solution while PowerBI connects faster..

Why do you have to work with Qlik DataTransfer? Is it because you have BC on prem? If so, your challenge is surely networking/firewall moreso than authentication? On-prem BC will keep web services key longer than SaaS anyway: Deprecated Features in W1 - Business Central | Microsoft Docs

We extract from BC SaaS directly to QS SaaS using REST API. Yes, the web services key is being deprecated but you can use it (for now at least) in QS SaaS's REST connector.

Definitely needs to be a solution for better auth for BC though otherwise we'll have an exodus of BC customers to Power BI next year when they lose any real possibility of built-in connectivity...

@Carl_Hunter An Qlik employee just recognized that the missing Basic Auth at Microsoft Business Central from April 2022 on is a problem: Options for Handling Connectivity to Microsoft Bus... - Qlik Community - 1873304.

@swi Thanks for this!🎉

Is there already a schedule?

Thanks @to759_PM !

Good to see @swi posting an idea re BC data connectivity. The community has posted numerous ideas but have not been deemed a priority, which is a complete own goal. Hopefully with @swi's backing, something might happen...

Hi, Qlik have known about this pending change for over a year, and there are various posts on community and ideation, yet, we are no further forward. What is the plan here?

Hi,

Qlik don't have a dedicated connector for MS Dynamics BC. Therefore, this is more of general problem as authentications work differently depending on the source. Building a generic solution in the current REST connector requires significant effort. The REST connector has some (limited) capabilities to authenticate with OAuth using query parameters/headers, see this online help page (this should be possible to use for MS Dynamics, and I will get back on that).

Having this said, there are two related items in the development backlog, one for a new connector supporting MS Dynamics 365 Business Central and one for an improved REST connector. Although no committed timelines, the current target for both these are within 2022.
