Qlik Sense SaaS - Duplicate/Export App from Managed Space

Qlik Sense SaaS - Duplicate/Export App from Managed Space

You can't duplicate or export an app from a Managed Space at the moment. This means if you delete the unpublished (personal/shared) version of the app you totally lose access to being able to further develop it or recover the back-end contents.

This is pretty critical as you need to be super careful to never delete any apps (or at least back them up regularly) that have linked published apps at pain of having to start the app from scratch!

I believe you may be able to export apps from Managed Spaces using the APIs but it's not possible in the UI which it should be.

Just to update this - it's possible using Qlik-CLI to move the app to a Shared Space (using qlik app space), duplicate it (either in the web or using qlik app copy), then move it back to the Managed Space (using qlik app space).

Weirdly the app still shows in the console as "Published" when it's in the Shared Space, but that makes sense when you move it back anyway.

Not really a long-term solution, but a way to recover your work at least if you lose the non-published version!

This just happened to me  - well Qlik - what were you thinking with this design?

I have also just stumbled upon this problem and have already doubted myself.

Coming from a world where apps are in streams and where i don't keep a copy of all published apps in my personal space, this issue in SaaS is highly strange....

Atleast can be enabled only for Tenant Admin , so more governed.

@deepakfacs  How? I'm a Tenant Admin and still can't export or move a managed app. There is nothing in the Management Console that would indicate that I can change this either.

I ended up making a Qlik App Automation for this. It takes an App ID, changes the owner to the current user, unpublishes, copies, republishes and sets the owner back to the original. You have to be an admin to use this but I haven't tested what minimum permissions are required.

Can't attach files here, so I've put the export in this comment on: Solved: Re: How to duplicate an app from a managed space - Qlik Community - 1743050

Really could do with having this as native functionality. Method 2 here is great > Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS: Unpublish an app with ... - Qlik Community - 1761101 but its not customer friendly. Our customer asked to be shown how we managed to restore their deleted app from the version in the managed space, and found the resolution steps a bit too advanced (!) Thankfully not for the techies amongst us 🙂

This needs to out of the box functionality for Admin (and maybe can Manage) users at bare minimum. Please consider making this possible to do via the user interface somehow.

I completely agree. It's a basic functionality and it should be implemented asap
