what is proxy vs virtual proxy in qliksense context
can someone explain me what happens initially when qliksense first gets implemented, during central node installation and what gets created in terms of proxy & reverse proxy and how it helps within QlikSense implementation.
I am confused with this Proxy & Reverse proxy concept. someone can please make it easier to explain would be helpful.

- Proxy: This is a webserver. It runs over a specified set of ports. By default it uses HTTPS (over 443) but this is configurable.
- Virtual Proxy: A method of authentication.
A proxy (web server) can have multiple virtual proxies (methods of authentication). Likewise a virtual proxy (a method of authentication) can be bound to multiple proxies (web servers).
Upon installation a windows NTLM based virtual proxy is created. This is because every server which installs Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows must support NTLM, be it using a Windows domain or using local users to the server.

Thanks Levi, that makes thing lot clear for me as coming from QlikView background I can relate to web servers.
Question:
So when you install Central node does it create 1 default proxy & is it tied to a default virtual proxy? Can you please send me screenshot as to how it looks when you first create central node.
When you create Rim node does it create another proxy & virtual proxy & do you have to manually now point it to Central Proxy or Virtual proxy?
I am just trying to rap my head around how this translates into actual Single node or multi node environment.
Thanks again.

On a fresh installation a default virtual proxy for using Windows authentication and no prefix is created. A prefix is analogous to a path (e.g. https://server.domain.com/hub uses Windows authentication and https://server.domain.com/saml/hub uses SAML). The same is the case for any RIMs which are added.
Any further customization is left to the administrator.
The one last component which is unasked but I will answer is Load Balancing (QMC > Virtual Proxies > Edit > Load Balancing). These are the Engines (aka the compute) which are used to deliver applications. This is analogous to QVS Server resources in the QlikView world.

Levi. Thanks. I'm fairly new to the Qlik Sense application. This really helps. I was told by our client to build out 4 environments across 2 data centers hosting a total of 20 nodes (Central, Failover, Consumer and Developer). I still don't feel totally confident about how to configure all the virtual proxies and load balancing, but I'm learning. It would be nice to have more detailed documentation on those areas.

Hi Michael - Have you come across any documentations or have you created any documentation based upon your experience installing and configuring and would you mind sharing ? I am in a similar situation expanding my clusters.
Thanks
