Provide a calendar with future release dates

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm not sure this can actually be done, but I would like to see a calendar with the future release dates.
At this time we have many release windows (QSfW patches every 2 weeks or so, QV at least once per year, ...), which can be very confusing

This calendar should:

  • show at least the week on which you aim to release the new software
  • be comprehensive of major releases (i.e. QS September 2020, QGA September 2020, QC November 2020, ...) and also of patches (i.e. QS June 2020 Patch 2, QWC March 2020 Patch 1, QC June 2020 Patch 1, ...).

I think at least a month in the future should be enough in order to let us (partners/customers) know how to schedule internal activities.

This would be really helpful but I personally doubt any software vendor would do this. They would need so many get out of jail free cards in case of date slippage. The advance technical previous usually provide enough information on forthcoming content. What are your thoughts on which version cadence to implement - internally and for customers - e.g. current realease, or release -1, etc ? Thanks.

You're indeed right, issues could happen at any point with software development.
Personally I would appreciate to know just when the release will be available, without a list of the features that could be included. I see on the calendar that a new patch for Qlik Sense is coming next week? I'll keep an eye on the download page or on the community to see what's new/fixed.

Internally we usually go with latest release a week or two later the new release is available. This way we can test installation/upgrade process and do a major check of what could be broken in latest releases.
For customers depends a lot if they have any kind of internal rules on software release. We do not suggest latest release until we have at least tried it internally and, for Qlik Sense, a patch is available. In case we found something that the customer uses broken (or there is a kb article on the support) in latest releases, then we won't suggest it to the customer.

Hello @rzenere_avvale,

Thanks for the idea. I am checking into this. As you and @AndrewMcIlwrick, have mentioned, talking about dates is always a touchy subject.

Hi all,

Because develoment processes and timelines for releases can change frequently, this is not something we are currently working towards. There have been a lot of different changes to SaaS releases and our Roadmap sessions each quarter provide great feedback to customers and partnes about release plans, but that is the current extent of our plans. Also, the technical previews allow users to have more insight about releases.

Hi,

just an additional question.

I was wondering about the info concerning technical preview for QS April 2021.

From a local Qlikki I heard "maybe you missed the info that there are only 4 releases per anno for QS on Windows?".

😕

No, I don't receive an official information either from Qlik or our partner.

Please could you confirm this or send me a link where I can find this new information?!?

How many releases are planned for QS SaaS. And as far as I know the tools should be the same. Only differences between HUB and "new" HUB, but no differences within the analytical tool itself.

Hey @martingries ,

I personally read this news in this post: Qlik February 2021 Release Now Available!
In the second half of the post, you can read

You might notice at the end of the blog, that there is a change to the release cadence for client-managed platforms. Releases will now be quarterly and occur during the second month of the quarter. Look forward to the next release in May (there will not be an April or June release)!

Qlik Sense SaaS will have a continuous release cadence with new features added throughout the year. You will be updated within the product as these new features are released. There is also the What’s new section on Qlik Help.

I hope this helps,
Riccardo
