keepCharTrailingSpaces in IBM DB2 for iSeries as source

This is related to Qlik support case #02256462, Replicate version 2021.05 trims trailing spaces, this is causing mismatch comparison between source vs target.

We found there is internal parameter "keepCharTrailingSpaces" in IBM DB2 for z/OS, but it is not available in IBM DB2 for iSeries. Hence Support Engineer asked to submit feature request regarding "keepCharTrailingSpaces" in IBM DB2 for iSeries.

Looking forward for approval/rejection confirmation of the request.

if approved, please let us know the availability date and version of the request.

if rejected, please let us know the workaround.

Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback.  Though we do not have a workaround currently, we will consider this as we do our future planning.

Thank you to collect our ideation/feature request/feedback.

As reference, feature request #1879858: NULL/blank string/spaces/special characters with iSeries as source.

==========================

This ideation created due to case #5337, NULL/blank string/spaces/special characters must be taken as it is, from iSeries to HDP CSV, by using Qlik Replicate 2021.05.0.863. R&D identified as "feature request".

Looking forward for availability date and Qlik Replicate version of the feature.

==========================

Thank you.

We do experience the same issue with an iSeries source, trailing characters are being trimmed which is problematic. We would also apreciate this feature to be pushed in a future SP

Hello @attunitysupportcs , @IDLTeam ,

From Replicate 2021.11.0.229 (PR03) R&D adds the support for keeping the trailing spaces in DB2i as same as in DB2z. Adding a new internal parameter  keepCharTrailingSpaces in DB2i source endpoint, set it to TRUE (default false) to keep char trailing spaces as is.

The PR03 will be available in download site soon.

thanks,

John.

This issue also very problematic for our projects too. We hope new feature will come with next SP.

Hello @kutay_cilingiroglu ,

The feature added to Replicate 2021.11.0.229 (PR03) already.

You can upgrade to Replicate 2021.11 PR03/PR04 to get it (Replicate patches are accumulative ).

thanks,

John.

Hello @kutay_cilingiroglu , @IDLTeam

Please also be aware that a new ODBC keyword has been introduced with iSeries 7.4 ODBC drivers to control the trimming of trailing spaces on the driver level:

Connection String: TRIMCHAR

ODBC.INI: TrimCharFields

Specifies whether or not to trim trailing spaces (padding) from fixed-length CHAR and GRAPHIC fields in EBCDIC, UTF-8, and UTF-16 columns. Variable-length fields such as VARCHAR and VARGRAPHIC are unaffected.

Possible values:
  • 0 = Do not trim trailing spaces
  • 1 = Trim trailing spaces

Default: 0
