Reminder – Changes to Qlik Sense Desktop

Hello Qlik Users!

June is rapidly approaching and if you are using Qlik Sense Desktop, you have probably seen this alert:

Qlik Sense Desktop will no longer be free after June 30th 2020, because you can now get started faster and easier on any device in the cloud. Qlik Sense Desktop will continue to be supported as part of a Qlik Sense Enterprise deployment.

Starting June 30, 2020, free access to Qlik Sense Desktop will discontinue. Users will still be able to access their Qlik Sense Apps via their local file system (default path is C:\Users\username\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps) and copy the files to other editions of Qlik Sense. To continue working in Qlik Sense Desktop, users must authenticate against Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows. Please note: The authentication on Enterprise need to be done using professional license.  The analyzer license won’t work.

R&D is also working on the ability to authenticate via Qlik Cloud Services which would also enable Qlik Sense Business users to use Qlik Sense Desktop but we do not have a date as to when this will be available. We will be sure to pass that information along once we hear from R&D.

In our efforts to move to Qlik Sense Business, will we have the ability to Build Mashups using the Capability API against Qlik Sense Business? If not, do we have a different solution to build mashup web sites / apps using Qlik Sense Business?

If you mean for the sake of development (not production): Check your profile on Qlik Branch on how to keep using Qlik Sense Desktop for that.

Qlik have had almost 6 months to do this. What is going on?

Can you please confirm if this is still planned. And if it is still planned give a estimated date of completion.

oknotsen, thanks for your response. If I understand your comment, we will NOT be able to use Qlik Sense Business to build Mashups, that would be unfortunate. Please clarify if that is the case. Thanks once again for your response.

Yes we are still planning to enable Qlik Sense Desktop to authenticate against Qlik Cloud Services.  We are currently on track to have this included with the June 2020 release for Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS and Qlik Sense Business.

Excellent news @Josh_Good .  This will allow those of use who travel for work and don't always have decent internet access to Hubs to be able to continue to work offline.  Am glad to hear Qlik is implementing this.

I'm pretty new to Qlik Sense. Wondering how a beginner can develop new qlik sense without qlik sense desktop.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic in the world and how many Qlik developers would have been let go or contract terminated, Qlik should rethink, or at least postpone discontinuing Qlik Sense desktop till next year June.
