Qlik's Google BigQuery Connector and the deprecation of the Google OAuth out-of-bound flow

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Users are only impacted if the Google BigQuery Connector is used with User Authentication as OAuth Mechanism.

Service Authentication as OAuth Mechanism is not affected.

Due to the upcoming deprecation in the Google authentication flow, the OAuth out-of-bound flow in the Google BigQuery Connector will be deprecated on October 3, see this Google blog post.

Impact

For this reason, Qlik is updating ODBC connector packages. The following products are impacted:

• All supported Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows versions
• All supported QlikView versions
• Qlik Cloud

Unaffected products:

• Qlik Compose
• Qlik Replicate
• Qlik Enterprise Manager
• Qlik RepliWeb and ARC
• AIS, including ARC, all supported version
• Qlik Catalog
• Qlik NPrinting

Recommendations

Actions needed from our customers are:

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows	Download the Qlik ODBC Connector Package hotfix and follow the instructions as seen below. *	September 30th 2022	After installing the new package, open an existing connection and reauthenticate or create a new connection. Note that only User Authentication is affected, not Service Authentication. * The permanent patch will be tentatively available on October 12th. You will need to upgrade to this patch at the earliest.
QlikView	Uninstall the existing ODBC Connector package and install the new version. See Install the Qlik ODBC Connector Package.	Download here. See the release notes here.	After installing the new package, open an existing connection and reauthenticate or create a new connection. Note that only User Authentication is affected, not Service Authentication.

Note: The temporary hotfix is compatible with all supported versions. The official patches for Qlik Sense Enterprise will be delivered for versions November 2021 and later. The estimated release date is October 12th.

How to apply the temporary hotfix on Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows

Before you get started, verify that you do not have any active reloads on the Qlik Sense reload node and download the binaries: ODBC Connector Package binary.

1. Log to your Qlike Sense Enterprise on Windows reload node with an administrator account.  
   
   If you have multiple reload nodes, you will need to carry these steps out on each of them.
   
   
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom
   Data\QvOdbcConnectorPackage
   
   
3. Zip-archive the entire QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder. This is your backup.
   
   Do not delete the backup of your existing binaries. Before upgrading Qlik Sense to the permanent patch or installing the next available Service Release, it is important to restore these binaries from the backup. Failing to do so may result in incorrect connection upgrades.
   
   
4. Delete all content of QvOdbcConnectorPackage.
   
   If Windows prompts that a file cannot be deleted, stop the Qlik services according
   to: Manual Start and Stop order of Qlik Sense services.
   
   
5. If not already done, download the binaries archive to the Qlik Sense server. 
   
   You may need to unblock the archive before extracting: Right-click the downloaded archive, choose Properties, choose Unblock and click OK. 
   
   
6. Unpack/Unzip the qvodbcconnectorpackage-enterprise-6.210.0.zip archive. 
   
   
7. Move the content from the unpacked QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder into the empty C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom
   Data\QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder.
   
   
8. If you previously stopped the Qlik Sense Services, restart them as per Manual Start and Stop order of Qlik Sense services.
