Odd shape maps

There are lots of postings about how to apply data to maps like the States or similar.  Are there any solutions to apply and show analyses for odd shape maps like different rooms on a floor?

I remember an old thread that covered that (floor plan) using built-in QV functions only, but can't find it right now, must be some years ago and I think the proposal was originated by John Witherspoon.

Here is an approach using an extension:
