Qlikview Server Upgrade Process

Hi,

I have some new Qlikview servers which I want to install the latest version (I believe this is April 2019 SR1). Can I install and apply the licence keys from my current servers (Version 11 SR2) and then copy over the relevant QVW, will this cause any issues and is there anything I need to look out for?

Thanks

yes it will work.

Note that the .shared file has a new format now (.Tshared)

Here is a link to convert the files:

Not sure if you already did things, but you can only use your license in one environment at a time, trying to use it in multiple environments concurrently will result in only one of them running properly...  If the other environments are shutdown that are using the same license, you will be fine, but you will not be able to run things concurrently, old and new.

There is also an additional catch, which is the License Enabler File (LEF), which is located in C:\ProgramData\QlikTech by default, needs to have a current product date in the productlevel parameter, that date needs to be at least as current as the release of the new release you are attempting to install/run.  So in this case, 12.40 was released in April 2019, so you want that productlevel date to be 4-x-2019 or later in order for things to run properly.  If the date is out of date, it may just be that you need to update the LEF, you can try the Update License from Server button in the QM\System\License\QVS\License tab settings to see if that updates things for you.

Here is a Help link as well: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/April2019/Subsystems/Server/Content/QV_Server/QlikView-Server/Q...

Hopefully this helps.

Brett

Hi,

Do I have to convert the Shared files? Or is this recommended?

Thanks

I would recommend converting your shared files to tshared, as this will give you the more robust functionality to prevent things from becoming corrupted...  You can convert them back etc. if you want to be able to use the Shared File Viewer to look at things too, just FYI.  Here is Help link to new tshared and conversion info for you:
