NPrint saving excel XLSM templates as XLSX

Hi

We recently upgraded to NPrint 2025 SR1 and since then XLSM templates are being saved to XLSX format both in the Designer and when published via a task. These worked perfectly for over a year in the previous version of NPrint. We also installed the latest version of Designer (May 2025) with no success. In short, NPrint is now saving XLSM templates as XLSX and dropping the VB within the templates

Our excel settings are set allow all macros.

In order to get around this, we are exporting the VB from the templates as *.bas files then importing those into the "failed" xlsx files.

Any help appreciated

Hi @k_holt69

I suggest you open support ticket ASAP and provide steps to replicate issue.

IMPORTANT - your DESIGNER and SERVER version of NPrinting MUST be the same. You cannot have server running different version than designer and based on your description you are (you said you installed May version?).

That by itself could have corrupted your templates and cause issues. I hope you did not try to preview templates using older designer. So before moving forwad make sure that your designer and server versions are aligned if they were not and you were editing templates I suggest you first roll back, then upgrade NPrinting server, engine and designer all to the same version.

cheers

Hi Lech

Thanks for the reply and I intend to raise a ticket but wanted to see if anyone else had seen the same behaviours.

Both server and designer are from the the same release as pictured in your reply, I just listed the release date. We installed the latest designer prior to previewing any of the files and all our templates are ok

When we preview the templates through designer, the output is a XLSX files but when outputted to a destination folder, the file is a XLSM file but without any VB.

I see,

In designer when previewing were you using the XLSM option?

Hi @k_holt69

When you export your template, then unzip it then preview the excel file inside, do you still have:

  • xlsm file?
  • vb script in it?

cheers

Lech

Hi

We don't zip the file. When either previewed in the Designer or published to a destination folder the resulting file has lost all the vb script. This includes any script attached to sheet and all modules are missing.

I didn't mean "when you distribute report".. I meant when "you export template"..and unzip it.... do you still have:

  • xlsm file?
  • vb script in it?
