Hi All,
Could someone please help me understand the behavior of Qlikview with the following selections. I have attached the "Whats new in QV 11" app to give you a testing copy of the issue i am facing.
In the attached QVW, i have made some selections like below.
Region | USA | |
Year | 2010 | |
Month | Aug | |
Quarter | Q3 | |
Customer | C & C Design |
Now, when i select a different month apart from the months that belong to Q3, (Lets say i select "Jan" form the month filter) all of my other selection gets cleared off, though Data does exist for that selection also.
You can try this out on your own and please help me understand why this happens.
I am using QV 11.2 SR 6.
Thanks in advance,
Aadil

Agree
Because there is an association between them.
Qlikview works on AQL (Associative Query Language) and this is very basic of that.
Hi Jonathan,
I understand your explanation. But the concern i have is exactly similar to this one. The example there has only two fields with Fruits and Colors. And let me explain below the same scenario with three fields. How does this should behave?
In the whats new in QV 11 app.
Select year --> 2010
Select Quarter --> Q3
Select Month --> Aug
Works perfect. Now,
Select the month Jan
To my understanding the selection in Quarter should get cleared as Q3 does not belong in Jan. But the selection in Year should remain the same as Jan is also part of 2010.
This causes the issue that if i select Jan after all of my above selection, I need to go and select the year again just because i changed the month from Aug to Jan. Which does not seem right.
Thanks,
Aadil
Hi,
The reason is,there are 3 years associated with Jan(2009,10,11,)
you can however program qv to select just 1 year, if that is your design requirement.

Yes, I understand the AQL concept.
The question here is that Jan is associated to 2010 and i have already selected it, though Jan is associated to 2009,2010,2011 (and my selection out of the three is on 2010). Why does it clear the selection on this field even-though the association is present in the data-set.
We have been digging on this for quite sometime and have concluded to a understanding behavior of Qlikview here.
I will be raising this issue with Qlik including both the scenarios where in one it works and in another it does not.
Will update this thread with Qlik's response on this.
Thanks,
Aadil
