How difficult is Migrating the Reports from OBIEE to Qliksense...???

Hi All,

have been working in Qlikview from the last 4 years, now there is new project coming which is to convert 12 OBIEE dashboards into Qliksense...

I am confident to work on Qliksense as most of it is similar to Qv, but coming to OBIEE am completely new to that and how its going to be, what are the steps that we have to plan to complete this migration.

please send your thoughts on the below questions.

1. what are the pre requisites to check in OBIEE while understanding the report.

2. Any major functionalities which are possible in OBIEE or not possible in Qliksense.

3. Any other major and important things to consider for this migration.

Thanks Much in advance.

Best Regards,

Dhasharadh.

Depends on your definition of 'Migrating'. If rebuilding from scratch fits the definition then it's not too difficult. For any other definition of 'Migrating' the practical answer is impossibly hard, because it's impossible.

thanks for your reply Gysbert,

here migrating means creating from scratch only. but there might be some chances of not achieving the exact functionality of OBIEE in Qliksense...?? so looking for an advice here if any one did this kind of work earlier... Thanks Again...

You have your current OBIEE reports so you know what information should be presented. And you know or can find out where the necessary data is extracted from. With that information you can create a data model for the Qlik Sense apps and build the charts, tables etc that are needed. It's usually not very difficult, but it could be a lot of work.

Migrating reports from OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition) to Qlik Sense can vary in difficulty depending on various factors such as the complexity of the reports, the size of the dataset, and the differences between the two platforms. Here are some considerations:

1. Report Complexity: The complexity of your OBIEE reports will play a significant role in the migration process. If your reports have advanced features like complex calculations, custom formatting, or interactive components, it may require more effort to replicate those features in Qlik Sense. Drift Boss

1. Data Model: Qlik Sense uses a different approach to data modeling compared to OBIEE. You'll need to redesign and rebuild the data model in Qlik Sense to match your requirements. This may involve restructuring data tables and creating new associations between them.

1. Visualization and Formatting: OBIEE and Qlik Sense have different visualization capabilities and formatting options. You'll need to recreate the visualizations in Qlik Sense, taking into account any differences in chart types, styling, and interactivity.

1. Data Extraction and Transformation: Migrating reports also involves extracting data from the OBIEE repository and transforming it to fit the Qlik Sense data model. This step may require data extraction and transformation tools or scripts to ensure the data is correctly prepared for use in Qlik Sense.

1. User Training and Adoption: Once the reports are migrated, there may be a learning curve for users who are accustomed to OBIEE. Providing training and support during the transition can help users adapt to the new Qlik Sense environment.

Overall, the difficulty of migrating reports from OBIEE to Qlik Sense will depend on the specific requirements, complexity, and scale of your reports. It's advisable to conduct a thorough evaluation of your existing reports, assess the differences between the two platforms, and plan the migration process accordingly. Engaging experienced professionals or consulting with experts in both OBIEE and Qlik Sense can also help streamline the migration process and ensure a successful transition.
