Reload Failure on the Governance Apps. How do I get them working again?

Hi there,

Was recently looking into the governance app and realized that they hadn't been updated since April 13, 2015. I looked into the scheduler and it had Failure beside both of the Operations and Licensing reloads.

Is there a way to get these two apps working again?

Thanks,

Tony

HI Tyler,

Hope all is well.

I have a client that recently updated from QS 1.x to 2.0.1 and then to 2.0.2 hoping it would fix the issues with Operation and licensing app but it did not resolve issue and the apps fail to load.

I have the log files for both these apps and was hoping you could take a look at them and see if it relates to my original problem posted here.

Thanks,

Tony

Sure - just send the info over (either post here or send to my email - as I posted above). Let me know the failure mode.

Hi Taylor,

Attached are the log files for the apps in question. The apps fail to load

on start up.

Reloads are failing due to improperly at least the following incorrectly formed logs:

ArchivedLogsFolder/pq-qlik-02....\Engine\Audit\PQ-QLIK-02_AuditActivity_Engine_2015-06-27T04.39.28Z.log

ArchivedLogsFolder/pq-qlik-02....\Engine\Audit\PQ-QLIK-02_QixCounter_Engine_2015-06-27T04.39.28Z.log

The fix is to remove those logs and any other bad logs that pop up with errors. You should only see the bad logs in the Sense\Repository\Archived Logs folder; they will be pre 2.0.2 logs.

Going forward with 2.0.2 and later 2.1, a fix was made to prevent the logs from being written improperly in these cases. So, no more removing log files!

Also, in the next release of the apps, the reloads will not fail if they encounter bad logs.

Sorry that you have to manually remove logs and that the apps stumble on them for now.

HI Tyler,

If I upgrade to 2.0.2 will it fix the problem without having to delete all the logs? And in deleting the logs can I delete entire directory and will the upgrade to 2.0.2 reinstall all the directories?

Trying to find the quickest way to do this?

Thanks,

Good question. Here are some options, though I don't like workarounds (and wish I could just magically update your app!) -

  1. Remove individual log files that cause problems
    1. Good: Limited impact on historical logging.
    2. Bad: Time consuming to delete a log; reload; failed? get the next culprit log; delete; reload.... etc.
  2. Remove (or just move to a different folder) the subfolders within ...Qlik\Sense\Repository\Archived Logs folder
    1. Good: quick and easy
    2. Bad: You lose history from those logs. Might not be a big deal this early on, though.
    3. Other: No need to re-create the subfolders in Archived Logs; they will get created as needed
  3. Modify the apps to not fail when encountering bad logs.
    1. Good: don't have to do anything with the logs
    2. Bad: You're scripting skills are probably awesome, but it's always risky to modify 'supported' things.

Either 1 or 2 should do the trick.

I appreciate the quick response and the options you provided.

Thanks again.

PS, I too wish you could magically update the apps

HI Tyler,

The specific files to delete where provided by QlikTech support based on the logs;

C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\ArchivedLogsFolder\ServerName.local\Engine\Audit\ServerName_AuditActivity_Engine_2015-06-27T04.39.28Z.log

and

C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\ArchivedLogsFolder\ServerName.local\Engine\Audit\ServerName_QixCounter_Engine_2015-06-27T04.39.28Z.log

It solved the problem and the apps are now running.

Thanks,
