Unfortunately, you cannot follow a user. However, if you do wish to subscribe to a user's RSS feed, you can click on their profile, click on View All for their recent posts and from the message options, choose Subscribe to RSS feed. You have the ability to add other users as friends. All this means is that you'll be able to see each other's online status, it doesn't mean that you'll automatically subscribe to their posts.
